カーボンニュートラルの世の中に向けて、この問題は避けては通れないものかもしれない。しかしアメ車にしかないマッスルカーをすべて失くしてしまうというニュースは、日本の数少ないアメ車ファンには大きな問題といえるのではないだろうか。現時点で分かっているダッジのeマッスルについて調べてみた。

This problem may be unavoidable as we move toward a carbon-neutral world. However, the news that all muscle cars that are only available in American cars will be lost may be a big problem for American car fans. I looked into what we know about Dodge's e-muscle at the moment.

ダッジのEV化

2021年7月に『ステランティスN.V』 がオンラインで開催した「ステランティス EV DAY2021」の中で、ダッジの電動化が発表された。

Dodge's electrification was announced at "Stellantis EV DAY2021" held online by "Stellantis N.V" in July 2021.

ステランティスは、フランスの自動車メーカー『PSA（プジョー、シトロエン、DS、オペル、ボクスホールの製造販売を行う多国籍企業）』と『FCA（フィアット、クライスラー、オートモービルズの製造販売を行う企業）』が出資して2021年に誕生。

Stellantis is a joint venture between French car manufacturers PSA (a multinational corporation that manufactures and sells Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel, and Vauxhall) and FCA (a company that manufactures and sells Fiat, Chrysler, and Automobiles). Established in 2021 with investment.

ステランティスは14のブランドを展開する販売台数世界第4位の自動車メーカーとなった。所有しているブランドは以下が含まれる。

Stellantis has become the world's fourth-largest car manufacturer by sales, with 14 brands. The brands it owns include:

・アルファロメオ Alfa Romeo

・クライスラー Chrysler

・シトロエン Citroen

・DS DS

・フィアット Fiat

日本ではボクスホールはあまり馴染みがないが、1903年創業の老舗といえる1925年にGMとなり、現在ではオペルのOEMモデルを製造している。そのほかは、日本でもよく知られているメーカーで、長い歴史を持っている。

Vauxhall is not very familiar in Japan, but it is a long-established company founded in 1903, which became GM in 1925, and currently manufactures OEM models for Opel. The other manufacturers are well-known in Japan and have a long history.

何世紀にも渡る歴史を持ち、それぞれに特徴を持つ。その中で、ダッジはアメリカンマッスルカーを代表する車であり、ほかにはない魅力があるといえるだろう。V8エンジンの大排気量な音は、エンジンをかけるたびに体感できる低音が心地よい。

そんなマッスルカーがなくなってしまう。

これはダッジのみならずアメ車のV8サウンドを楽しんでいるユーザーにとって衝撃的な事実ではないだろうか。

もちろん地球温暖化に対して各国の対応が急速に加速していることは事実だ。2025年のノルウェーを皮切りに2030年にイギリス、2035年に中国、2040年にフランスがガソリン車の販売禁止を打ち立てている。

They have a history spanning centuries and each has its own characteristics. Among them, Dodge is the representative American muscle car, and it can be said that it has an appeal like no other. The large-displacement V8 engine has a pleasant bass sound that you can feel every time you start the engine.

Muscle cars are gone.

Isn't this a shocking fact not only for Dodge but also for users who enjoy the V8 sound of American cars?

Of course, it is true that each country's response to global warming is rapidly accelerating. Starting with Norway in 2025, the UK in 2030, China in 2035, and France in 2040 are all set to ban the sale of gasoline-powered cars.

アメリカもクリーンエネルギー政策を打ち立て2050年までにゼロエミッション達成を掲げた。地球環境を考えれば、内燃機関の生き残る道は厳しいということは分かっている。しかし車好きたちにとってのEVは、車というより移動手段という考え方が挙げられるかもしれない。

The United States has also established a clean energy policy and aims to achieve zero emissions by 2050. Considering the global environment, we know that the survival of internal combustion engines is difficult. However, car enthusiasts may think of EVs as a means of transportation rather than a car.

加速だけに車を操る楽しさがあるわけではないため、EVは乗り物であって車ではないような気持ちというのが正直なところだ。

To be honest, EVs feel like vehicles, not cars, because the joy of driving a car isn't just about acceleration.

アメリカンマッスルが象徴するもの

What American Muscle Symbolizes

マッスルカーの全盛期は1960年~1970年代のこと。その起源をたどると1955年の『クライスラー 300シリーズ』となっている。その後1960年代に入り『ダッジ ダート』や『フォード サンダーバード』『ポンティアック GTO』が相次いで発表され、1965年にダッジからHEMIエンジンが誕生している。

The heyday of muscle cars was from the 1960s to the 1970s. Its origins can be traced to the 1955 “Chrysler 300 series”. Then, in the 1960s, “Dodge Dart”, “Ford Thunderbird”, and “Pontiac GTO” were announced one after another, and in 1965 Dodge introduced the HEMI engine.

1970年代に入るとエンジンの大きさと馬力を競い合い、高トルクを発生させるV8エンジンを搭載したモデルが主流となっていく。パワーこそすべてに尽きる、アメリカらしい発想でマッスルカーの歴史が築き上げられてきたといえるだろう。

In the 1970s, cars competed in terms of engine size and horsepower, and models equipped with V8 engines that produced high torque became mainstream. It can be said that the history of muscle cars has been built on the uniquely American idea that power is everything.

しかしそこには、スポーツカーとも異なる直線番長の真髄とでもいうべき、ほかの車にはないアメ車だけの持ち味が活かされてきた証でもあった。

However, it was also a testament to the unique characteristics of American cars that are not found in other cars, which can be said to be the essence of straight road leader, which is different from sports cars.

ダッジのeマッスルとは

About e-Musle of Dodge

ダッジCEOは、「ステランティス EV DAY2021」に登場した際、「電気自動車を売るのではなく、アメリカンeマッスルを販売していく」と話している。これはHEMIエンジンをEVに置き換えて販売するというものではなさそうだ。

When Dodge CEO appeared on ``Stellantis EV DAY 2021,'' he said, ``Rather than selling electric cars, we will sell American e-muscle.'' This does not seem to be a case of replacing the HEMI engine with an EV and selling it.

現行のダッジが、ターゲットとしているのは「ミレニアル世代」といわれる20代~30代の若い世代。新しいものに違和感を持たず、新しい世界に関心の強い世代ともいえる。そのため、OHV大排気量V8エンジンのトルクフルなマッスルカーのイメージを少し方向転換させることのできる時期に入ったと考えたのかもしれない。

今回の会見で明らかにされた、今後のダッジの方針は2つある。その一つは、2024年にEV車としてのeマッスルを誕生させること。例えば、現在考えられるのは、

The current Dodge targets young people in their 20s and 30s, known as the "millennial generation." They can be said to be a generation that is comfortable with new things and has a strong interest in the new world. For this reason, they may have thought that the time had come for them to slightly change their image of a torquey muscle car with an OHV large-displacement V8 engine.

There are two future plans for Dodge that were revealed at this press conference. One of these is the creation of the e-Muscle as an EV vehicle in 2024.

ステランティスが持つEVプラットフォームは3種類。

・STLAスモール…満充電の航続距離500㎞

・STLAミディアム…満充電の航続距離700㎞

・STLAラージ…満充電の航続距離800㎞

いずれかのプラットフォームが採用されることは間違いないだろう。

For example, currently we can think of

Stellantis has three types of EV platforms.

・STLA Small…cruising range on full charge 500km

・STLA Medium…Full charge range 700km

・STLA Large…Full charge range 800km

There is no doubt that one of these platforms will be adopted.

もうひとつが「HEMIエンジンの拡張を進める」こと。つまりエンジン車のパフォーマンスを向上させることといえる。今回の発表で明らかにされたのは、2030年にアメリカ本土での新車販売を40％EV化させる。残る60％でHEMIエンジンを継承させるマッスルカーを開発するということになる。

Another is to "proceed with expansion of the HEMI engine." In other words, it can be said to improve the performance of engine vehicles. The announcement revealed that by 2030, 40% of new car sales in the U.S. will be electric vehicles. The remaining 60% will be used to develop a muscle car that inherits the HEMI engine.

しかし近い将来、HEMIエンジンがeマッスル化されることは時間の問題なのかもしれない。まずは2024年に誕生するeマッスルがどのようなものになるのか、期待して待ちたいものだ。

However, it may be only a matter of time before the HEMI engine becomes an e-muscle in the near future. First of all, let's wait and see what kind of e-muscle will be born in 2024.
